The Two-Wheeled Legends

1. The Ural & Dnepr (The Heavyweights) If you see a motorcycle with a sidecar today, there is a high chance its DNA traces back to these. The Origin: Both were born from reverse-engineered BMW R71s during WWII. The Vibe: The Ural (from Siberia) and the Dnepr (from Kyiv) were the workhorses of the military and police. Fun Fact: The Dnepr MT-series often featured two-wheel drive (the sidecar wheel was powered), making it essentially a tractor on two (well, three) wheels.
2. Izh Planeta Sport (The Rebel) While most Soviet bikes were utilitarian, the Izh Planeta Sport (1973) was the USSR’s answer to Japanese cafe racers. It was the first Soviet bike to use oil injection and featured a distinctive "sporty" look that made it the dream of every Soviet teenager. It could hit 140 km/h, which felt like breaking the sound barrier on Soviet asphalt.
